Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2, 2026

Pagio ("the App") is designed to respect your privacy. We believe your reading habits are personal, and our data handling reflects that. This policy explains what data we collect, how it is stored, and your rights regarding that data.

Data Collection

Pagio stores the data you enter into the App ("User Data"), including:

  • Books, authors, publishers and series, with any covers or photos you add
  • Reading sessions, progress, goals and streaks
  • Quotes, notes and the sections you create for them
  • Characters you add to a book
  • Shelves, collections, tags and your Up Next queue

No Accounts Required

Pagio does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number, unless you choose to contact us.

Support Requests

When you contact us through the support form in the App or on pagio.cc, we receive your email address, your message and any screenshots you attach. Messages sent from the App also include your app version, iOS version, device model, free storage, whether you have Premium, and the App's random identifier, so we can reproduce problems. Messages are delivered through Forminit and kept only as long as needed to answer you and follow up. You can ask us to delete them at any time.

Analytics and Crash Reports

We use analytics and crash-reporting services to understand how the App is used and to fix problems. They receive usage and technical information, such as which features are used, app and device details, and crash reports. This information is linked to a random identifier, not to your name, email address or Apple ID. It never includes your book titles, notes, quotes or anything else you write in the App.

We process data on the following legal grounds under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Contract performance — Processing your User Data (books, reading sessions, notes, etc.) is necessary to provide you with the core functionality of the App.
  • Legitimate interest — We use analytics and crash reports, which are linked to a random identifier rather than to your name or email address, to improve the App's stability and performance, and we use the details in support requests you send us to answer them.

Storage & Sync

All data you create in Pagio is stored in your personal iCloud container using Apple's CloudKit technology.

  • Ownership: Your data belongs to you.
  • Access: The Developer of Pagio does not have access to your iCloud data. We cannot read, view, or sell your reading logs.
  • Sync: Data is synced between your devices automatically via Apple's services.
  • Security: Data is encrypted and handled according to Apple's standard platform security policies.

No Proprietary Servers

We do not operate servers that store your library or reading data.

Book Lookups

When you search for a book, scan a barcode, or let the App fill in covers, author photos or publisher logos, the App sends what it needs for that lookup (a title, an author or publisher name, or an ISBN) through our lookup service to external book databases and image search providers, and loads the images it finds from their servers. These requests never include your notes, quotes, reading sessions or the rest of your library. Our lookup service keeps a shared cache of search terms and book results so it can answer faster, but the cache is not linked to you or your device. To prevent abuse it counts requests per device each day, using an anonymous key from Apple's App Attest, without recording what was searched.

Third-Party Services

  • Apple CloudKit: Used for data storage and sync within your personal iCloud container. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Analytics and crash reporting: Used to understand how the App is used and to fix crashes, as described under Analytics and Crash Reports.
  • Book databases and image search: Used to find book details and images, as described under Book Lookups.
  • Forminit: Delivers the messages you send us, as described under Support Requests.
  • No Ad Tracking: Pagio does not display advertisements, does not use tracking pixels, and does not sell your data to third parties.

All third-party services used by the App are required to provide protections of user data consistent with or exceeding those described in this Privacy Policy.

Data Retention

Local Data

Deleting the Pagio app from your device will remove the locally stored data immediately.

Cloud Data

Because your data is stored in iCloud, you retain full control over it. You can delete your data by:

  • Deleting specific items within the App.
  • Deleting the App's cloud data via your iOS System Settings (Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage).

App Discontinuation

In the event that Pagio is discontinued, your data will remain in your personal iCloud container and will not be affected. You will continue to be able to manage or delete it through your iOS System Settings as described above.

International Data Transfers

Your data is stored in your personal iCloud container using Apple's CloudKit technology. Apple may process and store this data on servers located outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including in the United States. Apple employs appropriate safeguards for international data transfers, including compliance with the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. For more information on Apple's data transfer practices, please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy at apple.com/privacy.

The analytics, crash-reporting, support and book lookup services described above may also process data outside the EEA, including in the United States. Where they do, they rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your Rights Under GDPR

As a user in the European Economic Area (or wherever GDPR applies), you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — You may request confirmation of whether we process your data and obtain a copy of it.
  • Right to rectification — You may correct inaccurate data directly within the App.
  • Right to erasure — You may delete your data at any time through the App or your iCloud settings.
  • Right to restriction of processing — You may request that we limit how your data is processed.
  • Right to data portability — You may request your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — You may object to the processing of your data based on legitimate interest.

Because Pagio stores all User Data in your personal iCloud container and we have no access to it, most of these rights are exercised directly by you on your own device and iCloud account. If you need further assistance exercising any of these rights, please contact us at support@pagio.cc.

If you believe that your data protection rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. If you are located in Poland, the relevant authority is the Urząd Ochrony Danych Osobowych (UODO), ul. Stawki 2, 00-193 Warszawa, Poland (uodo.gov.pl).

Children's Privacy

The App is rated 4+ on the App Store and is not specifically targeted at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and we do not request or verify the age of our users. Because the App does not collect personal identifiers and all User Data is stored locally and in the user's personal iCloud container, the App's functionality and data handling remain the same for all users regardless of age.

Changes to This Policy

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. We will post any changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the App after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.

Contact

Pagio is developed by Dmytro Lytvynenko, who is the controller of the personal data described in this policy.

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us through the support feature within the App, at pagio.cc/support, or by email at support@pagio.cc.
